The mystery sanftuary isn’t as twisted as in the first book, Silent in the Gravebut the characters, especially the supporting ones, are more fun this time around.
The last person Julia expects to Lady Julia Grey’s adventures continue, picking up six months after the end of the previous book.
Certain of her cousin’s innocence, Lady Julia resumes her unlikely and deliciously intriguing partnership with Nicholas Brisbane, setting out to unravel a tangle of deceit before the killer can strike again. All the players are charming and suspect in turn and the murder even takes place in the sanctuary with the candlestick! This man just doesn’t want you around and I felt humiliated for her that she would just keep throwing herself at someone. That series is amazing and on a much higher level than this one. Lady Julia Grey 5 books. Took me a bit longer to get into than Silent in the Grave but I did finally get into it.
And second, once the mystery ies start to get solved and Everything is Explained, it was really an overly complex resolution, not to mention wildly unlikely. Her subtle humor and exquisite dialogue might be my favorite part of the series. I began to suspect there was more to it, but my reaction at first was complete disbelief.

The reason danctuary Nicholas’s sanctuzry was both her father’s matchmaking efforts, and a case that Nicholas was on that had him investigating his “fiance” who was a notorious jewel thief who had absconded with one of the royal pieces that he was tasked to retrieve, that Julia ends up finding for him. The only real bright spot in this story is Papa March, whose dedication and palpable affection for his ten children and long-dead wife is genuinely touching. Julia conveniently hands him half the pieces of the puzzle, and it isn’t because she’s smart, either. Refresh and try again.
The mysteries are good–sometimes the broader parts of the crimes aren’t terribly hard to guess, but there are always smaller intrigues mixed in, and I don’t think it would be possible to solve each and every one of them, so I think everyone can reach the end surprised in some fashion, and therefore satisfied. Coz he loves her most and gave her a house and Brisbane risks his life again for her. Stone and cut up the raisins, but do not chop them; wash and dry the currants, and cut the candied peel into thin slices.
I couldn’t have asked for more and wouldn’t have wished it different in any way.

I just feel like she thinks and acts very much like I do, which isn’t to say that she always makes the right decision or behaves sensibly.
Given how much I loved Silent in the GraveI felt a tingle of thrill and anxiety as I cracked open the sequel. I’d been sitting on this book, as well as the third book in this series, for a month. Brisbane is as mysterious, maddening, and elusive as ever. At the point when she enters the putative murderer’s room to confront him– alone, in the middle of the night– Raybour just wanted to slap her upside the head and remind her how well that worked out xeanna her in the last book.

To find out more, including how to control cookies, see here: The pacing was slow, the exposition felt clunky and excessive, and, most baffling and sanctuarg of all, Rayoburn just couldn’t muster up much genuine affection for or even interest in the characters. The vibrancy, humor, emotional ailent and sharp insight that elevate books of all genres above the mediocre for me were all surprisingly slient for me in this one.
There is definitely no instant gratification with these two, but I’m okay with that. When you start wishing the heroine would have a little respect for herself and move on to find a better man rather than making a fool of herself over one who clearly doesn’t value her enough, you know there’s a sulent with the romance.

Seriously annoying hot air. As wonderful as Silent in the Grave is, its sequel is indeed even better.
