Jack was not my favorite hero, but I came to like him too at the end… And once again, I would have enjoyed having the resolution at the end to be longer, and more detailed… I love relishing the happy ending a little more, you see!
I think by the end of the book he was changed, it just took him a long time to get there and that was frustrating for me. She is a heartbreaking character, so realistic in her complete lack of self esteem and unwilling to believe her true worth.

I enjoyed the very unusual position of Lady Mary but found her relationship with Black Jack unrealistic. Kf course he uses all of his finely honed seduction skills which Mary finds outrageous and laughs off. It Cndice One Night. Mary’s whole thing is that she grew up in an abusive household and her one attempt to escape left her ruined and convinced that men would only like her for her money.
Much different from Lady Mary of Dowton Abbey fame. The story moves along quickly, but not so quick that it makes it unbelievable. Anyway while he is taking in the season he meets Lady Mary Haviland who at 29 is an old maid.

The hero could be jerk at times, but Mary, the heroine, completely made it up to me. Hern was trying to convince the reader that the heroine was not acting out of I really was liking this story however unlikely it was.

Her bursting out into laughter got old but you realize she does it as a protection. It sucked me right in.
